The difference between the two is which direction it loads the input and which direction the output is actively driven versus passively pulled by the load. Note that each has 4 connections: power, ground, input, and output. There is nothing magic about a PNP transistor in particular. For completeness I'll also add a output load resistor, which you should assume is needed unless you know whatever will be connected to the output will provide the necessary load. At minimum, you need the transistor and a base resistor. Added in response to comment:Īs I said, a single bipolar transistor can be used as the basis for a simple inverter. There is little reason to try to make your own inverter, but yes, it is possible. There are also single inverters (and other small logic gates) available in small SOT-23 packages, which is the same package individual transistors come in. That gives you six separate inverters in a single 14 pin package. Yes, this can be accomplished with a single transistor and resistor, but there are chips specifically designed to invert digital signals. Overall the integrated logic gate is the winner. The CMOS version will only have a small leakage current both when high and low. The transistor version's input will also draw (a small) current when high. You won't get this difference with CMOS gates, which have symmetrical source/sink capabilities. When the output goes low the capacitor will be discharged through a much lower resistance and the slope will be much steeper. If the output is connected to a capacitor a high output level would mean that the capacitor is charged through R1, which will result in an exponential slope with a time constant R1C. This already leads a bit further, but like I said in comment to sandun the output is highly asymmetrical. No current through R1 means no voltage drop, so that the output will be at +V. If the input signal is low there won't be any base current, and no collector current. This current will be amplified, and the collector current through R1 will cause a voltage drop so that the output will be low. If the input signal is high there will flow current through R2 and the transistor's base-emitter junction (base, not gate). You'll have exactly the same connections as with the inverter.īTW, a PNP is an option, but more often an NPN will be used. It's a simple schematic, but you still have to make a few simple calculations. It can be done with a transistor and two resistors, though. Just four connections: power supply, ground, input and output. If it doesn't complicate your schematic too much place the symbol with the input to the left. Or, since you're talking about digital signals anyway you use an inverter.Ī is the input (for gates with more inputs that will be A, B, C, etc.), Y is the output. Having a clear structure to work *in* is completely different from making plans *about* something. A good, structured workflow puts us back in charge and increases our freedom to do the right thing at the right time. It is certainly not the lack of interesting topics, but rather the employment of problematic work routines that seems to take charge of us instead of allowing us to steer the process in the right direction. Still, we often struggle the most with procrastination and motivation. Something like that does not happen by chance.Īs students, researchers and nonfiction writers, we have so much more freedom than others to choose what we want to spend our time on. A good structure enables *flow*, the state in which you get so completely immersed in your work that you lose track of time and can just keep on going as the work becomes effortless (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975). By breaking down the amorphous task of “writing a paper” into small and clearly separated tasks, you can focus on one thing at a time, complete each in one go and move on to the next one (Chapter 3.1). If you can trust the system, you can let go of the attempt to hold everything together *in your head* and you can start focusing on what is important: The content, the argument and the ideas. It relieves you from the burden of remembering and keeping track of everything. Whenever I am stuck, I do something else.” A good structure allows you to do that, to move seamlessly from one task to another – without threatening the whole arrangement or losing sight of the bigger picture.Ī good structure is something you can trust. But moreover, it describes how he implemented them into his workflow so he could honestly say: “I never force myself to do anything I don’t feel like. It will present you with the tools of note-taking that turned the son of a brewer into one of the most productive and revered social scientists of the 20thcentury. Until now, writing and note-taking techniques were usually taught without much regard to the overarching workflow. Stellar observations, on the other hand, allow us to explore how the stellar activity depends on stellar parameters (e.g. In figure 1, we show an example of recent solar observations at UV/extreme UV (EUV)/X-ray wavelengths, able to resolve coronal structures down to approximately 250 km. Solar observations provide us with a close-up view of magnetic activity, allowing us to investigate the characteristics of the magnetic field and magnetized plasma at high spatial and temporal resolution. Understanding magnetic activity is of fundamental importance for stellar astrophysics as it plays a crucial role in star and planet formation and evolution, controls stellar angular momentum loss, and drives orbital decay and evolution in close binary systems. relatively unevolved stars with convective envelopes below their photospheres, and it includes a variety of phenomena such as starspots, activity cycles, hot outer atmospheres (composed of chromosphere, transition region and corona) and magnetic breaking due to stellar winds (see, for example, a review in ). Stellar magnetic activity is ubiquitous in solar-like stars, i.e. Recently, significant progress has been made, both observationally and theoretically, in understanding coronal heating mechanisms (see also other papers in this theme issue on ‘New approaches in coronal heating’ for reviews of different aspects of recent coronal heating research). The detailed physical processes that heat the outer atmosphere of the Sun and of solar-like stars to millions of degrees are still poorly understood, and remain a major open issue in astrophysics. b) Is this their first tooth loss? Teri Silvio presents an anthropology of animation through a detailed ethnographic account of how characters, objects, and abstract concepts are invested with lives, personalities, and powers-and how people interact with them-in contemporary Taiwan. Like performance, animation can serve as a platform for comparisons of different cultures and historical eras. The present volume proposes an anthropological concept of animation as a contrast and complement to performance: The idea that we construct social others by projecting parts of ourselves out into the world might prove useful for thinking about such topics as climate crisis, corporate branding, and social media. In the last century, performance became a key term in academic and popular discourse: The idea that we construct identities through our gestures and speech proved extremely useful for thinking about many aspects of social life. The ubiquity of animation is not a trivial side-effect of the development of digital technologies and the globalization of media markets. There are new technological objects that seem to have lives of their own-from Facebook algorithms that suggest products for us to buy to robots that respond to human facial expressions. Cartoon characters are everywhere-in cinema, television, and video games and as brand logos. We hope that the 2022 Yunlin International Puppet Theater Festival will bring the puppet show culture from Taiwan to the world. The early twenty-first century has seen an explosion of animation. The blue color is chosen for the core spirit, representing fierceness and courage. Through the art and the international connection, the monumental local cultural asset of puppet theater can be passed down, local cultural industries can be promoted, local cultural vitality can be revitalized, tourism can be enhanced, and the reputation of Yunlin as the "original hometown of puppet shows" can be witnessed.īrand Vision: Strengthen the theme- Integrate the old and innovate- Face the world Nowadays, puppet theater has also become a representative of Taiwan's "national image". With the concept of "sharing culture, being one from all continents", we hope to enhance the interaction and exchange the experiences, so that the puppet theater can continue to absorb new ideas, develop and innovate in a sustainable way, and recover the lost audience of puppet theater. We also invite outstanding foreign puppetry groups to Taiwan to observe and exchange performance skills with each other. Since 1999, Yunlin, known as the home base of puppet theater, has been holding the Yunlin International Puppet Theater Festival to enrich the cultural and artistic vision of audiences nationwide and bring traditional culture and arts into the lives of the people. Since it has been introduced to Taiwan, the puppet theater has developed a unique set of Taiwan's local puppet theater performances by integrating the local customs and humanistic beliefs.
